Teaching movement goes far beyond knowing correct exercise technique for traditional lifts. In fact, without correct movement patterns, your clients shouldn’t be using external loads. With proper Primal Pattern analysis skills, you will be able to more effectively help your clients reach their goals, avoid preventable injuries, and get better results in less time. Fitness coaching should start with a solid understanding of the complex interactions of the body, injuries, joint and muscle function, and the compensation patterns that we present at rest and in dynamic movement. Then, it’s about taking this information and understanding the impact it has during both real life, and exercise.

In late 2020 Scott Smith, local fitness gym owner and trainer, began battling ALS.
I know I was shocked to hear my local colleague at just 39 with a wife, three year old and baby on the way was diagnosed and would start a fight taking him away from the lifestyle he loves and depends on.
For over 150 years this disease has ravaged families and dreams, killing everyone afflicted. And it feels like no one knows anything, let alone cares. So, Scott and his family have been battling against that and spreading the word about ALS and creating a Flex on ALS movement that started in the Kansas City fitness community. Scott has shared his journey via social media along the way and tugged at everyones heart strings along the way.
I feel for this family, for Scott and for everyone affected by a disease that currently has no cure. As a fellow fitness professional, I cannot imagine the impact having movement taking away from me and the change to my family this type of a diagnosis would bring. The Smith family is one of our own here in Kansas City, and if you’ve attended an Excel Wellness Continuing Education event, you know that community and staying connected is part of my mission. Therefore, Excel will be donating a portion of all registrations for the October 29th course to Scott and his young family.
Be sure to read more about Scott here and we hope to see him or his wife, Jamie make an appearance at the event.
